The quadrants between the cross arms are open and pierced, while triquetra knotwork fills the cross arms with intricate detail. The shoulders carry the decoration further, with Celtic knotwork continuing down each side. Deep antiqued recesses throughout bring the raised design into sharp relief. The ring tapers from 16mm at the face to approximately 5mm at the back.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSYMBOLISM\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\nThe Celtic cross combines the Christian cross with a surrounding circle, a form that emerged from early medieval Irish and Scottish Christian art. The circle has been understood as representing eternity, the intersection of heaven and earth, or the continuity of the divine.
